Bellingham mayor names Cliff Cook as finalist for new police chief

Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville named Clifford Cook as the final candidate for the city's police chief vacancy on Wednesday, Dec. 19.

Cook, 57, has worked in law enforcement for 36 years, most recently as police chief for the City of Vancouver, Wash. Prior to that job, he was a deputy police chief and held other leadership and staff positions with the City of Fort Worth, Texas.

?Cliff is a strong, steady, ethical professional with the experience and skills necessary to lead us into the future as our Police Chief, according to what we?ve learned throughout our extensive hiring process,? Linville said.

Linville and others spent three days interviewing finalists, a process that included law enforcement leaders, city department heads, police department employees and others, the city said in a press release.

Linville said she expects to complete the hiring process ? including a thorough background check and additional state requirements ? and make a final offer in early January. She began a nationwide job search in October 2012, after Chief Todd Ramsay announced his Dec. 31, 2012 retirement.
