YAKIMA COUNTY -- It has been a deadly spring and summer so far on our Central Washington rivers and streams. The heavier than normal snow melt created a river system stuffed with debris and water volumes that can change with little notice. Local water rescue crews are more valuable than ever before.
Photojournalist, Nick Campfield is the first to ride with swift water rescuers in the valley's newest rescue boat designed to get to you faster, no matter where you are.
Water rescue specialist Brian Robertson says without question the common denominator in river drownings is no life jacket.
This summer, you can borrow kid's life jackets for free at the Yakima Fire Station at 40th and Englewood. Just return them when you're finished.
